The Fungus of Opportunity

Shelves of fungus growing on a big dead tree look like numerous, convenient footholds to a dumb kid. But only a dumb kid would actually try to climb up them. I know.

“Hey! This tree is gonna be easy!” you think. Then the “footholds” collapse at the slightest pressure from your sneakers and you get a face full of rotten bark and bugs.

What’s the benefit of reaching the top of a rotten tree trunk anyway?

Similarly this whole society is rotten. The whole world is a rapidly decomposing stairway to death, full of fungus-like “opportunities to get ahead.” We think, “Oh, I can get a foothold here. I can climb to the top.” People try all the time. Sometimes we feel like we’re making solid progress. Then it’s all over.

But what’s the point of climbing to the top of something rotten?

Well, I know SOMEBODY who woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Maybe you should take a “mental health” day off from work. 😉
